LOS ANGELES, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — Hit U.S. TV series “Shogun” and “Hacks” won the top prizes at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night, garnering trophies for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Comedy Series, respectively.
FX’s historical drama television series “Shogun” has broken the record for most Emmy wins for one season of television. After winning 14 Creative Arts Emmys last weekend, the Japanese-set epic series ruled the drama categories again with four wins.
In addition to the biggest prize of the night, Outstanding Drama Series, “Shogun,” featuring a mostly Japanese cast, also landed wins for Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Hiroyuki Sanada, Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Anna Sawai, and Directing for a Drama Series for Frederick E.O. Toye.
Billy Crudup grabbed Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show” while Elizabeth Debicki nabbed Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Netflix’s “The Crown.”
HBO’s “Hacks” won Outstanding Comedy Series and Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Jean Smart.
FX’s “The Bear,” which won the top honor in the comedy categories last year, took home four trophies Sunday night, including Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Jeremy Allen White, Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Liza Colón-Zayas, Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Directing for a Comedy Series for Christopher Storer.
“Baby Reindeer” from Netflix is the winner for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
The awards, presented by the Television Academy, honor the best in American primetime television programming from June 1, 2023 till May 31, 2024. The event was held at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. ■
